Tonight we stopped at Gabby's Bistro in Northern Dumaguete. Located within Florentina Hotel. Gabby is a young Filipino chef whose menu is well thought out and implemented. We tried his Gabby burger which was what looked like the basic burger. 200 grams of  ground beef that tasted fresh and un-spiced with a slight hint of grilling.  Served with homemade chips the burger came with red leaf lettuce, tomato, cucumber slice and two onion rings. Priced at p175. The onion rings gave it a crispy texture that was different.  Overall we give the Gabby Bistro's burger 3 Buns. It was a good burger, but not a champion burger. But then, neither did it advertise itself as one. We will go back again and try his Bacon burger. My wife is already planning on the onion rings burger again. She loves the crunch they give.   All in all, a good burger and much, much better then Jolly Bee.

For No reason at all, we stopped at Jolly Bees in Robinson's today for lunch. Granted this place is Never on the top of my list for lunch. So much, that I didn't order the burger. My wife , Nelie did.

This is what Jolly Bee calls it's Champ burger. Personally I think CHUMP burger would be more appropriate.  On the plus side, The Top of the bun looked good and was. The two slices of tomato were fresh.  It came with, lettuce, cheese, ketchup, pickle relish and a ton of Mayo. After that, it was all down hill....... underneath was a ton of mayo/pickle sauce that turned the bottom into a gooey mess. While trying to pick up a monster burger is not a detriment. The problem is if the bottom bun is all mushy. The paddy itself was a processed paddy of something with meat flavor added. If you like a processed soy/meat/something else burger, this one is for you. The chemical flavoring gave it almost a real grilled flavor.  The price was p155 with small coke and fries.

Review scored it at 2 buns out of 5 buns.

The Challenge...The Rules

Guests at Aqua-Landia Resort Give a thumbs up to their Monster burger
THE CHALLENGE

Here is the challenge ... search high and low, low and high, up and down, under and above for the Best Hamburger in Dumaguete, Philippines.  While I understand that eating a million pounds of what may or NOT be actually beef burgers could be unhealthy. But for the sake of Science I accept the challenge.

As an replanted American, from Chicago. I am used to making burgers in my sleep and on occasion when I am awake. Grilled, fried, boiled or baked....Chicken, Beef and even Vegi-Burgers.  I have created, cooked and eaten them by the millions. Fourth of July grilled burgers, Thanksgiving turkey burgers, Christmas  Snow burgers. But the question remains....Can a Great Burger be found in the Philippines?

Unfortunately in Dumaguete there are many who call themselves Burger Makers....but, few who should actually claim the title of one. Germans, Canadians, Chinese,Filipino and a few Americans all claim to have the secret hands to make the perfect burger.  We will see......

Before I start,

 The RULES.
